The Reddit War’s, Do People Have A Choice?

As most know by know there is massive Reddit drama in the community with Reddit’s new API (Application Programming Interface), this stops popular third party Reddit apps from being able to use Reddit’s content database to run their apps.

Now you may be wondering why did Reddit change there API pricing? It is because they are going to IPO and there company is going public. Due to that they are trying to cut costs, and as you may have guessed there biggest spend (Not Confirmed) is API pricing.

Even one of the most popular Reddit reading apps Apollo let the public know that they where costing Reddit approximately 20 million in API Requests according to the cost chart given by Reddit. So as many other communities would have done Redditors went to protest.

They all basically boycotted and almost all of the most popular Reddit communities went private. Reddit’s corporate entity did not expect this to do much, little did they know that all of these communities going private led to the Reddit homepage just freezing and being broken.

In the end all of the Reddit communities have slowly opened back up but that is because the CEO of Reddit updated the community guidelines so after 72 hours the Reddit moderators involved in boycotting would have there moderation privilege removed.

This forced the hand of millions of Reddit communities but during all of this madness approximately 2 million people left Reddit. Most likely never to return.
